I'm in Word 2003 and am having trouble with Word closing while I'm either
editing a document through Track Changes or if I'm accepting/rejecting
comments.
It usually happens when there are a significant number of tracked changes
within a document, and most often it is when I am either adding
bullets/numbering, deleting them, or changing the formatting for bullets or
numbering.
For instance, I highlight the text and click the bullet button. Word thinks
about it for a moment, and then I get the "Word has encountered a problem and
needs to close" message. It closes, restarts, and recovers the document. I
then have to save it and resume editing. I can't format bullets or numbering
anywhere in the document after that. (Unless I want to keep closing,
recovering and re-saving over and over again).
This has happened with several documents and even happened one time in
Outlook (I use Word as the Outlook editor).
I've tried closing the document and opening it fresh, restarting my
computer, repairing Word, reinstalling Word, copying and pasting text into a
fresh document, calling our company help desk (that was worthless).
I work for a state government consultant and we can't live without track
changes to the Nth degree. Our revision process has to track changes and
document who did the changes. It doesn't seem to be related to the number of
changes or the length of the document. (Although, more often than not, it
involves documents coming from my boss--arrrgggh).
Anyone had a similar problem?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
