Track Changes & Word Crashing

L

Lynn

We have a file from another company where they have added track changes.
When we open the Word file, within 3 seconds it crashes, recovers itself and
then crashes again, and again. It would seem that the track changes are the
problem. I've looked at the forum and it's obviously corrupt and there was a
helpful link to how to mend a corrupt file - Save As Webpage (which I did)
and then Save back to Word (which I don't seem to be able to do - it's not on
the File type list). however, even the saved as webpage version doesn't show
the tracked changes so probably not any point. All the other options (check
section breaks) I can't do as the file crashes so quickly - before you do
anything! We've tried from a CD version of the file (in case the mail
systems were corrupting it) and this has the same problem.

Any clues anyone? Thanks in advance.

Does this help one part of the problem? From within Word, save as *. htm
type file (web page). Then close Word and re-open it. Load the *.htm file,
and you should be able to save it AS a *.doc file (Word)

....Save As Webpage (which I did) and then Save back to Word (which I don't
seem to be able to do - it's not on

Thanks for the feedback and glad that I could help. I am also a beginner but
have mastered one or two kinks thanks to others on this group. So I help
where I can (and hope fervently that a more expert person will quickly speak
up if I'm off the track!).

What do you mean 'mostly...'? And I work a great deal with track changes.
What exactly do you mean 'some of the track changes look weird?

Hi Aalaan
Many thanks again - it has shown all the tracked changes but was also
displaying the formatting changes at first (when I first responded) but I
then turned them off using the Show button to display just the deletions and
additions.
Thanks Lynn

Hah! You may have hit my current limit. The show button? What version of
Word are you using? I can't see a show button on my Word 2000. If the rouble
started when you hit it the solution seems obvious. But may not be. Someone
with a clue will probably have to rescue me.
