Tracking, AutoCorrect and Numbering

I'm editing a document and have Tracking turned on. When I use any of my
custom auto correct entries, Word will randomly change the numbering further
down the document and track the changes as if I'd purposely changed the
numbering. Worse, it adjusts the numbering far enough down the document that
the affected numbering is just below the bottom of the screen and not visible
until I work my way down the document.

Anyone else seen this or know how to make it stop? Thanks, all.

Track changes does _track changes_. If you have automatic numbering, changes
in numbering are still changes.

I'm not sure what your custom AutoCorrect entries might have to do with
numbering.

You should make sure that your numbering is set up for stability. This is
hard to do, at least at first. It does _not_ happen by default. By default,
Word's numbering is a mess waiting to become a disaster.

See: How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Word
document

bullets see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bullets/controlbullets.html, the
subject is related.)

Thanks. Not sure stability is the complete answer to my problem because Word
was only changing part of the list. As an example, the document had a list
that had 45 numbered steps. and Word restarted numbering at step 33 at number
21, finishing the 46 step list at number 34. Tres bizarre.

I'm reading the base document, and it contains a link to a document titled
"How to cure Word's List Numbering with a dose of VBA". However, it's a
broken link. Do you know where that document might be found? Thanks.

It never was fully written. It was a link to a group of newsgroup threads.

I would recommend simply following the steps in Shauna's web page.
