Tracking edits/chenges prior to Word 2003

If I send someone a Word 2003 document for them to edit in Word 2000, when I
re-open the ammended file in Word 2003 will the ammendents be shown using
View > Markup? I know that the markup function has only become available in
2003 but want to see edits made using a different version.

Track Changes has been available under various names for many, many word
versions. Whether you will be able to see the markup will depend on (a)
whether they made the changes with Track Changes enabled and (b) whether
they accepted all the changes before returning the document to you. If you
have not instructed them on either point, then you'll have to take your
chances. If the document is returned to you without markup, you can use
Tools | Compare and Merge Documents to compare the version you sent with the
version you got back; Word will mark the changes.
