Tracking Gantt - why is Actual Start & Actual Finish not included?

Hi, we need to be ensuring that our PMs also record theirActual Start &
Actual Finish dates as well as their actual work. I note that Actual Start &
Actual Finish dates can be recorded via the Tracking/Update Tasks form or
automatically and accurately via the Task usage timesheet approach by
entering actual hours against the dates worked.

Is there any specific reason why the Actual Start & Actual Finish date
columns are not in the standard tracking gantt other than it does not give
you the flexibility to spread the work out over a protracted duration. If I
add Actual Start & Actual Finish dates into our company version of the
tracking gantt am I fundamentally doing anything wrong?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

"Why" is hardly relevant, it's a selection made by the lab, it doesn't
change any calculation.
Add the columns you want, that doesn't modify Project!

what I meant was, did the selection "made by the lab" indicate a particular
approach ie we are not going to put Actual Start & Actual Finish in the
tracking table becuase we believe it would be an inaccurate way to track by
having these columns utilised here instead of say in task usage?

Hi,

Good heavens, how would I know what went on in somebody's mind 20 or so
years ago when they chose for this approach?
If you want to see these columns don't hesitate to insert them.
That's what I mean by "Why" is absolutely irelevant.
Hope this helps.
