Tracking in project 2003

I am having trouble understanding how the tracking function works in
project 2003. I have tasks and I am updating actual % complete, but
when I update the project tracking its overwriting my actual % complete
with the % complete based on the dates set in the task under the
original plan and not showing the variation like I would have expected.
Can anyone suggest a course of action or help me understand tracking?

Hi,

Is this in the Tools, Tracking menu, Update... as scheduled?
That function does what it says, it updates as scheduled, so from the
planned start to the given date it sets as complete.
If not, which function do you wnt?
