Tracking Numbers + Mail Merge Problem

Hi:

I am designing gift certificates that I would like to include a tracking
number. The article entitled "Add tracking numbers to gift certificates or
coupons" was useful. I'm using publisher to design the certificate and I have
created an Excel spreadsheet with a list of 75 consecutive numbers.

I want to mail merge the numbers into my certificate. Up to this point, all
is fine.

Where I deviate from the instructions is that my certificate is being
printed 3 up on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. I therefore need each certificate to
have its own unique number. What happens when I mail merge to my sheet is
that all three merge fields on the page are the same number, not three
unique/consecutive numbers. (I have simply created a table

So the question: if I have a publication that is divided into three sections
(table) and I want each section to list a different mail merged number in
sequence, can this be done?

Thanks.
Jason

Hi Jason,

You can't do it if you have it set up as one page divided into three.

You need to have your publication set up to print 3-to-a-page.
Set your page size in File > Page Setup to the size of an individual
certificate, then set the tile printing options to print 3-up.
Then when you merge, each certificate will have a different number on.

Thanks!

Should have thought of that!

Setup your merge as a postcard, do a data base with sequential numbers. There is
an Excel example here, Access is about the same. Scroll down a little.

You also can do a list in Publisher or Word.

Well i have come to know that giving instructions is something that isnt
easy, its a skill weither accuired or not, iam afraid many try without
accuring that skill first... at least there is an attempt...but with
publisher there should be no excuse.

As far as Creating a consecutive number field in Excel goes..i ask a friend
who told me that i must only enter 1 number..THEN pull down the highlighted
box, by the corner mark, below, forthe autofill options popup to appear.
