Tracking Repetitive Tasks

We recently installed Project Server 2007 and management loves it (for the
last year we just used Project Standard).

Now I am being requested to track not only Project Tasks but also repetitive
tasks…. Basically to track all hours of all employees. Note these tasks are
not related to any project.

I’m not sure if MS project is the right tool to do this, but in looking at
various options, and it looks like it may be possible. I have played with
Repetitive tasks within Project Pro and Activities within PWA…. But I’m not
really sure what the best way to handle.

Note each employee has already documented their repetitive task…. some only
have one per week, others may have as many as 50… (And there are about 80
employees in total). So there will be a lot of “data entryâ€.

Has anyone used project for this purpose before? Any tips, guidance, etc.

Frank do you need to report against the repetitive task names or would it be
suffiecient to have one task called "repetitive Task"?

There are several options you can choose from, fristly admin tasks ( which
would be applicable if you dont need to report against the repetitive task
names ). You can use the functionality of Timesheet in 07. But be aware if
you like to update your tasks there is an extra step when you use the
timesheet.

If you need to report against each repetitive task name you could create a
Project ( eg. each month a new one) and assign the resource to these tasks
which they could then update in "My Tasks" ( i assume that your staff uses
my tasks to update their tasks).

I hope this gives you some ideas, please let me know if you need more info
thanks
