Tracking Taskings in Outlook's Calendar

S

SOF Guy

I need a way to use a separate Outlook Calendar (other than my personal
calendar) to track tasks I assign to other folks and receive reminders when
these tasks/subtasks are due in a manner similar to the one I get when
appointments on my personal calendar are due. Although I can create a
separate calendar (Outlook 2003), I don’t get the reminders when due because
Outlook Calendar only does that for personal calendars.

I looked at Microsoft Project but it is overkill. It’s too complicated and
has too many features for my simple requirement.

Here's my situation. I learn of an event which requires periodic reports to
me from a subordinate. I need a calendar to indicate when these reports are
due and what type of report is required. I also need to be able to
sort/aggregate related reports (e.g., All reports on Smith’s trip.)

Does Microsoft have anything which will do that job? As I said, I think
Outlook Calendar would fill most -- if not all of my need -- if I can find a
way receive reminders from the second calendar.

Thanks.

why not keep them in your calendar? use categories to keep them separate
from your own appts and use views to show or hide them.

That's an option. However, the category option on my tasks is greyed out. How
would I fix that?

You mean that when you open a Task the Category button is greyed out? I have
never seen that. I have sen the Add button greyed out until you start typing
in the field to add a new Category.

Tyr this:

open a new Task - fully expanded in size. Click the Caetgories button
(bottom row) and select Master Category List. Type a new Category name in
the window and click the Add button. OK. Now select that Category from the
list. OK.

I hope this helps you at least a little bit!
