Tracking using a Mail Merge

I am trying out the BCM and did a campaign with a mail merge. Letters all
printed and there are history comments on the business contact. However,
when I click on tracking, there is nothing but the contact names. I don't
see any of the deliver status.

Now, I did not create accounts first... I just created business contacts.
Is that my problem? Because now I want to run a campaign on the ones that
weren't included originally and they're all showing up.

The "Delivery Status" field is only populated when you select "Outlook" or
"E-mail Marketing Service" as the Marketing Campaign's "Delivery Method" .
If you've sent a campaign using E-mail Marketing Service, the delivery status
field can be refreshed so you can track which mail messages have been
delivered.

The Marketing Campaign form will also show statistics such as:
- The number of e-mail messages that were not sent.
- The number of messages that were bounced (not delivered).
- The number of recipients who unsubscribed.
- The number of recipients who clicked and followed any links in your
message.
- The number of replies.

Thanks, that makes sense. Now I need to figure out how to filter the prior
ones out of the next one.

You can select recipients from an existing campaign, but it sounds like you
want to select all Business Contacts NOT included in an particular marketing
campaign. Is that correct?

The best option is to use the "Review and Filter" button on the Marketing
Campaign form to uncheck selected recipients from the "Review Results" tab.

Right, I want to exclude prior contacts from the next mailing.

At this point, since I'm entering the contact information, I can filter on
dates. It looks like I can also customize a field and filter on that, so I
think I have it under control (as if that were remotely possible). Thanks
for your help.

Why would this NOT work for this type of send? What are your suggestions for
workarounds?

Is this going to be updated to work properly in the future (track sent
status)? This is critical for this type of thing...

Clinton,

Thank you for explaining this mystery surrounding printed Mail Merges using
Marketing Campaign.

However, I do not like the fact that it doesn't update histories or show
executed as does the email selection. This is pretty basic stuff. Many of us
still send snail mail. In fact, with email getting as bad as it is, we'll be
doing more standard mail in the future.

ACT easily accomplishes this simple & basic task. I think the MS Team should
update this in future Revs.

Bob
