Transfer files from Windows office XP to Windows 2007

I bought new computer and transfered my files from old computer windows XP to
new computer Vista. I loaded Office 2007 Pro Plus. However all my word files
are marked as "DOC file" and attempts to open with Adobe which fails. How can
I open my old files in word 2007?

Right click on a file, choose "open with" and choose Word. There should be a
little box at the bottom to check "Always open with...." or words to that
effect. This should repair the file association.
