transfer mail from external drive

My Mac laptop just died (fried logic board). I had my hard drive exported onto an external drive. I now need to get my mail transfered from my external drive (entourageX) to my new computer with Entourage 2004. I had tried dropping my Microsoft User data from the external drive into the MUD file of the new laptop--but nothing happens. And it doesn't recognize any of the info when i then go to import--it sees the files but wont become bold--so i can click "import". Please any step by step help would be great.

You can't import from the same version.
