Transfering Blanck Document to Word

Bob Love

I have several blank forms which require completion by typing in the required
data in the appropriate fields. I do not know how to transfer these forms
into Word 2003 for appropriate completion. Until now, I have been printing
the required information by hand.

I have a HP 7310 All in One Printer that can scan the document, but each time
I try to transfer it to Word ,the document gets garbled.

Generally, the best way to approach this is to scan the form as a graphic. then
insert the graphic into the document's header region, with "behind text"
textflow formatting. Resize so that it fits the page.

Now you can position form fields in frames and/or tables over the graphic.

Thank you for the info, but I have no idea how to accomplish what you suggest.
How do I scan document as a graphic? How do I insert the graphic into the
document's header reagion with "behind text" textflow formatting. Your help
would be greatly appreciated.

For the first question, you need to consult the documentation that comes with your
scanner, or ask in a group concerned with scanning. Most scanners can scan what is
placed on the scanning bed as an integral unit (which would be a graphic) or using
OCR, which picks up the text as text and usually tries to lay it out so that it
looks the same as on the scanned page. You've done the latter, but you need the
former.

To insert the graphic into the header

1. View/Headers and Footers

2. Insert/Graphic/From file, navigate to the location where you've saved the scanned
graphic, select it

3. Right-click the graphic and choose the "Format picture" (or something similar;
what you're formatting depends on the type of thing you've right-clicked).

4. Go to the Layout tab and choose "Behind text"

5. Now you should be able to position the graphic freely on the page and resize it
(drag the corners) so that it's the correct size (it probably inserted too small)

6. Use the "Close" button on the Headers and Footers toolbar to return to the
document.

Note: you put the graphic in the Header/footer area so that you can work freely on
the document when setting up the form. If you did not put it in the Header/footer,
you'd constantly be clicking on it and moving it, which you don't want.
