Transfering Files to another person with Mac Computer

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have a Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor Mac software Mac OS X version 10.5.5 Leonard software

The computer is running Excel:mac
Microsoft Excel 2008 for Mac
Version 12.1.5 (081119)
Latest Installed Update: 12.1.5

I've saved the file in 97-2004 format .xls and the person trying to open the file using using Excel version 10.0.0. cannot open the file on their Mac.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
