transfering registration

I had Microsoft office 2004 installed on a previous computer (emac); I
just purchased a macBook and would like to transfer the application
over to my new computer. How do I do this and maintain registration?
[when I try using the install disk it installs just fine but when I try
to register the software online the browser tells me that the
regristration code in not typed in correctly-even though it worked to
begin the installation process.] I assume that I will not be able to
use the software for more than 30 days if I do not register it online
with Microsoft but I purchased the software back in 2004 and have it
installed the computer of my choice do I not?

From my understanding, there is no need to register at all. If you
have the "proper" Office package (not the test drive version), then it
will not expire after 'X' days. All you need to be sure of (to be
within the law) is that you uninstall the copy you aren't using.

I don't think it even need be removed from the emac- unless it's being
transferred to a different user. Since the emac is a desktop & the MacBook
is a laptop any of the licenses allow installation on both at the same
time - they just aren't allowed to be run simultaneously & *won't* if the
two systems are networked.

I have what CyberTaz describes:

I have a G4-500 which I purchased Office for went from Office2001 to
Office2004.

Then March of 2005 I purchased a new PowerBook 17"

After getting opinion about the install from here. I simply installed it
on my PowerBook and it works fine. Although I use the same modem and
switch for my Internet. I don't have both machines on at the same time.

So technically I am not using a network. (Heck I can't even figure out
how to do, only to to transfer files from one computer to another).

Since I am the only one that owns the machines, and run the machines
what benefit would it be for me to have both copies running at the same
time anyway!

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

I do something similar. I recently got a Mac Pro to warm my office.
My Powerbook and the Pro happily sit together on an ethernet.
I have to quit out of Word on the PB if I want to use Word on the same
reg on the Pro. That is a mature and sensible arrangement. I hate to
say it, but it is pretty fair.
(At the moment I only use Word on the Pro for experiments. It is far
too crashy with OpenType fonts. Not only that the whole damn machine
falls over at random without the assistance of Word and forgets half
its memory. Apple have graciously agreed to give me a whole fresh
machine to break. I have to say I'm looking forward to the end of the
ATSUI/Word disagreement. It is wickedly quick when it is working)
