Transfering software to a new PC

I have 2 laptops and 2 licences for Office 2003 Professional. One laptop is
used as a backup and retired every 2 years. I wish to move the licences for
Office Professional and several other Microsoft applications (I have 2 full
copies of MS productivity suite of products including Viso, project,
publisher, front page, one note.) I plan to retire the backup computer and
switch current laptop into that backup role. So, I wish to deinstall and
transfer licences from oldest laptop to replacement laptop, while transfering
the data and settings from existing laptop to new laptop.
I need the number to call when I do the licence activation. Also, If I
deinstall a licenced copy, do you decrement the copies shown in your
activation database.
Also, are any of the 3rd party transfer applications usable or supported
(DNA and Laplink PC mover); espically alohabob, the one MS just bought and
which no longer seems available.

If you need to use phone activation the number you call would depend on your
location - and I dont propose to translate your headers
And Depending on your O/S you may well have a 'save my settings' wizard
You can uninstall/install retail versions as often as you like.

Calling from Dallas, TX.

So if I deinstall office, etc. I can reinstall on the new machine without
going through phone support? (yes/no)

Once I install office, etc on new machine, I can move settings from current
laptop to new laptop. Where is this transfer wizard I hear about and does it
work? Specifically how to transfer all?

Are any transfer programes supported (DNA, PCmover, alohabob)? do they
work? Does MS sell anything to help with this common activity?

In a reinstall it may depend on how much time has elapsed since it was last
activated.
Any case phone activation is usually pain free.

I used a transfer app some years ago, I believe supplied with a Norton app,
it wasnt entirely successful.
Personally I would'nt use one unless I had lost the installation media, as a
last resort.
As far as I know MS doesnt have such an app, and its reccommendations would
be to uninstall/reinstall
I have uninstalled/reinstalled Office without probs, or phone activation.

As long as the Office Suite is not an OEM version, uninstalling and
reinstalling is not a problem. You MAY have to call MS to activate depending
on how long it is since the previous activation. You will be prompted with
the correct telephone number when you get to the activation part of the
install: it is a locale specific number. This has never been a problem for
me. You can temporarily skip activation and use Office 50 times before it
shuts down to reduced usage when you will have to call MS.

If it is an OEM version, it is non-transferrable.
