Easier method and one that retains custom forms, received and sent dates,
etc., is to copy the Outlook.pst file from the old to the new computer.
Then, once Outlook is installed on the new computer, delete the new .pst
file created and then open Outlook. When is asks where the .pst file is,
point it to the location where you copied the file from Windows 98.
All of this presupposes that the user is actually asking about Outlook, not
Outlook Express.

| You don't state whether you had Outlook 2000 installed with Corporate
| / Workgroup support or as internet only support which can make a bit
| of a difference.
|
| Your contacts, mail items etc. are normally kept in one or two files
| on your old Win98 machine; this data can be exported and imported
| into Outlook on the Windows Xp machine quite easily.
|
| From the file menu in Outlook on the old machine, choose import and
| export. You should be provided with an option to export the
| information to a .pst file (a back up). When exporting be sure to
| choose the top level folder (Personal Folders) rather than just the
| inbox, and check the include sub folders option.
|
| Once the back up .pst file is created, move it to your new machine.
| Then launch Outlook there and repeat the process choosing import this
| time and import all your old data into the Outlook install on that
| machine.
