Transfering Word Documents

Going crazy with a 'problem'. I have Microsoft Word XP on
my new PC. I have Word 2000 on my laptop. The laptop only
has a floppy drive and the PC is strictly CD Roms. When I
travel and use my laptop for my writing (Word 2000), how
can I then forward or transfer this into to Word XP on my
home machine?? I will be gone two months..I thought about
emailing to myself but Aol deletes all new mail after 27
days. Any suggestions for making certain that my work
gets to my PC from the Laptop?? Thanks so much

Not so much a word issue, but since I run into this issue occasionally....

Set up a hotmail or yahoo account and email to yourself? I think yahoo
gives you more space than hotmail, but word documents over 2 months
shouldn't fill one up, and you can always set up another. Those are free.

Not sure if there are still free internet storage space programs out there,
there used to be (ex Driveway), try googling. If you are attached to a
university, they often have storage space on servers for students/faculty.

Believe you could also buy a special ethernet cable to go between two
computers and network them occasionally to copy stuff over (easy with Macs,
I have no idea re PCs), depending on how much trouble it will be to connect
your own computer to the internet from a different location when traveling,
and how often you will be doing this. But of course internet storage/email
gives you an extra backup.

There is one way if you can't add a CD-ROM to your laptop
or a floppy drive to your PC. Open up a free account on
the web at Hotmail, or Yahoo, or Excite, or any that
allow you to download attachments and give you the option
to keep your email stored indefinitely. Email the work to
one of those addresses, and only use it for this
purpose. Depending on the size of your documents, you
can get quite a bit stored on there, usually up to about
3 MB. If you want more space than that, you can usually
purchase more space.

Not sure if your old pc has a USB port but I would
definitely purchase a mobile drive or jump drive as some
manufactures call them. I have one that I carry on my
keychain that's no bigger than a stick of gum and plugs
directly into any USB port. Windows recognizes the device
and assigns it a drive letter. This is a great way to
quickly transfer files between pcs. I paid $20 for my
64MB mobile drive. That's approx 50 floppies! win2k and
winxp automatically recognize it but you have to load
drivers for it in 98 and 95....only once though. Good
luck!

Also known as micro drives, pen drive, or flash drives. They really are
neat!

Buy one of the new mini USB or Flash Drives. Both systems
should have a USB port and this will solve all of your
problems. Quite often found on sale with rebates for
about $30.
