Transferring from XP to Vista

I purchased a new laptop with Vista, and for several months have been using
the new one and my old one, which has XP. I had never used Outlook 2003 on
the "old" laptop, just Outlook Express. I use the Vista version of OE on my
"new" laptop to store my gmail messages, and I have set up Outlook 2003 on
the "new" laptop specifically for a business venture I wish to begin.

Well, after using easy transfer from the old to the new, my Outlook account
seems to have been transferred to the Mail (old OE) account, and I don't know
what's happening with Outlook, I'm too upset to try to figure it out.

I think I have everything, EXCEPT the Outlook account that existed before
the transfer. Is all that information living somewhere and can I find it and
get it back?

Thank you.

Has your old OE mail & addresses been transfered to Vista Mail successfully?
Outlook is not an account its an applictaion.
What happens if you start Outlook (with Mail closed)?

If you've never used Outlook on the old computer then of course nothing is
transferred or configured automagically.
Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Microsoft Office Outlook are all separate
mail clients and only Outlook Express and Windows Mail are in the same line
of family so your OE data gets transferred to Windows Mail.

If you want to move away from Windows Mail and start using Outlook 2003 then
you'll need to configure your mail account in Outlook first. After that use
the Export feature from within Windows Mail to export your items to Outlook
2003.

I already had Outlook configured on my "new" laptop. When I open it now, it
shows the leftovers of when I tried to use Outlook on my "old" laptop.
Messages are from 2005.

I was already using Outlook on my "new" laptop, and now it's replaced by
messages from 2005 on my "old" laptop.

Should I use system restore to get things back where they were right after
the transfer?? The account I had in Outlook on the "new" machine looked like
it had moved to Mail as a new account there.

Perhaps a side-effect of Windows Easy Transfer, which more often than not
screws things up. Describe exactly the steps you performed in WET.

System restore does nothing with data files, only sys files

If you were using OL on the new system, and it contained current mail, then
you made the mistake of using easy transfer, and now when you open OL it
only contains old mail, then it may be that anothers set of personal folders
have been created.
Search your hard drive, to include hidden for *.pst, what is the result?

then it may be that anothers set of personal folders have been created.
Or overwritten as you overwrote your files and settings with WET.
