Transferring Microsoft Word to another computer

I had Microsoft Office on my old computer, an E-Mac. I transferred
everything to my new Mac Powerbook and discovered that the Microsoft
Office is now a test drive, about to expire. I do not want to pay for
it again. Is there anything I can do? Sheridan

Hi Sheridan -

Do *Not* simply drag the Test Drive folder to the Trash.

Follow the instructions on this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=office2004td

I'm not sure what you "transferred" to the new Mac or how you transferred it
or what version of Office was on the old unit, so I can't offer much more
except that you _may_ have to reinstall Office, itself, & reapply any
updates - but you won't have to pay for it again as long as you have your
original install disk(s).

If you have any problems post back with *complete* details. Someone will be
able to help you as long as you provide accurate info for them to work with.

I bought Office 2001 for OS 9 and upgraded to Word X, because that's
the only Office program I use. But I just bought an Intel chip Mac
Mini, so I can't install Office 2001 or even get the CD to mount on my
new machine for verification purposes.

How do I authenticate the fact that I own an upgrade eligible Office
product?

You don't need verification to *purchase* the upgrade, just to *install* it
:) During the installation you'll be prompted to point to the older version,
then insert the 2001 CD in your drive for that purpose.

Also, Office X will run on your Intel Mac - you could do so in the same way,
then u/g to 2004 from there.

Just be sure to use the Remove Office utility to remove the Test Drive of
2004 if it has been installed. Do so *before* attempting to install the live
software regardless of which approach you take.

I posted earlier today, but don't see it, so I'll try again -- I WAS
installing the Word X upgrade, which I've used for two years, when the
CD problem occurred. The Office 2001 CD is computer-burned copy of a
licensed Office 2001 that worked very well on my old PPC G4; I twice
reinstalled it when I bought a new hard drive and did a clean
install. But the Intel processor Mini just chews on the CD for a
couple minutes and spits it out, so the Word X update can't
authenticate and won't function.

Both MS Office 2001 for Mac and my X Word upgrade were paid for and
registered -- shouldn't there be a way for me to use the Word program,
which is compatible with my new machine? Anyone know of who I can
talk with about this? It just doesn't seem fair, somehow, to have to
buy Word again after buying a useable copy already. I can't buy a
2004 Word upgrade either; that won't solve the problem at all.
What is the point of registration when it doesn't help you out of
trouble?

Anyone have any thoughts about how to deal with this?
