Transferring OE folder from PC to Outlook on laptop

We've just bought a laptop which is connected to the Internet via a Netgear
wireless router. I have a folder on my PC in outlook express which I would
like to transfer to Outlook on the laptop. I have no idea how to do this! I
much prefer OE to Outlook and wish there was some way of getting it onto the
laptop. My PC's OS is Windows XP and the laptop has Windows Vista. I'd
really appreciate all the help I can get!

Windows Mail on Windows Vista is the successor of Outlook Express. You can
directly transfer your current dbx-files of OE to Windows Mail.

You can ask for more details on how to move your data in this newsgroup;
windows.vista.mail

Migrating from Outlook Express on Windows XP to Microsoft Office Outlook on
Windows Vista also means that you first have to migrate your data to Windows
Mail. If you indeed want to use Microsoft Office Outlook instead you can
then choose Export from within Windows Mail.

Thanks for this info. I successfully used Export/Import to get my folder
from OE to Outlook (on XP) and from there copied it to both a DVD-RW & my USB
stick , however am having no luck getting the back up onto Windows Mail on
the (Vista) laptop. I've delved into "howto-outlook.com" but as a golfing
grandma who's only minimally computer literate, I'm obviously not reading the
directions correctly! Having inserted the disc or the USB stick into the
laptop, I'm at a loss what to do next!

Yes, that's the article I read. I've put the USB stick into the port on the
laptop which resulted in a window opening up giving me the contents of the
stick. I left-clicked on the relevent ?file/folder and then right-clicked to
find its properties [type of file: Microsoft Office Outlook Personal Folders
(.pst). Name: backup.pst).] I then proceeded to click on copy but have no
idea where to put it on my hard drive! At this point the Read Only attribute
isn't ticked.

Sorry to be so tedious about this, but at least I'm learning how to do
something new.

You can put it anywhere you like. As the article suggests; I prefer to put
it in the "My Documents\My Outlook" folder which I created to conveniently
store my all my pst-files.

You'll need to copy the pst-file from the DVD or USB stick to your hard
disk
(don't overwrite any existing pst-files). Then remove the Read Only file
attribute. Once you've done that you can start Outlook and use File->
Open->
Outlook Data File...

Thank you! Thank you! Hallelujah! With your invaluable help, Robert, the
folder is now safely in Outlook on the laptop.

I can't thank you enough!
