ok I bought office pro 2007 from my school bookstore. I wasnt sure how many
installs I had so I installed it on what I thought was 5 computers. My new
laptop would have made 6. My computer crashed so now I need office on my
laptop, however when I try to drag office folde to a portable drive then drag
that onto my new laptop, it doesnt work. I tried doing an instal directly
from the office disk, but it told me I had reached my 6 install limit. I dont
really want to spend another 125 for the software. There has to be a way to
move one of my install limits to the new comp. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Only a volume license of Office allows you to install on that number of PCs
Assuming you do actually mean its currently installed on 5 PC's
Office Pro can be installed on a desktop & portable device for use by the
same user
You install from the Office cd/dvd, and then use phone activation if on line
fails
..
You cannot install any modern program by dragging/copying the program folder

Number of installs on a volume license varies from school to school, but
changing a mobo or other piece of hardware can make Office think you have
more installs than you actually have. This could include warranty repairs,
home upgrades, or any change to the hardware. Phone activation is indeed
the way to go in this case.

One way to clone a program is by image copy or hard disk loading. This is
of course one of the reasons for activation being required.

Only a comp. sci. or engineering major would have six computers at college.
Most of the rest of us are satisfied with no more than three. ;^)

well thanks for all the help and for the legality check..lol yes I do have 2
desktops and now I have 2 laptops...however until now with the new laptop i
had much older computers that would not run certain programs I have and
needed for school..ie adobe cs4...which required much more memory and
resourses than any of my older pcs had. I bought a new laptop to remedy all
these problems. Having said all that, I called the number on the registration
window and talked with a customer service person who gave me a new
registration number.
