My old Win98SE machine has Word 2000. My new WinXP machine has Word 2003.
I'd like to transfer all my setting including auto-corrections from the old
to the new machine.

Can I just copy normal.dot from the old to the new machine? Are the
auto-correct entries included in normal.dot?

In Word 2003, autocorrect entries are definitely saved in the "normal.dot"
file. I'm fairly certain this also applies to Word 2000.

However, I don't know whether a Win98/Word 2000 "normal.dot" file will work
with WinXP/Word 2003.

I suggest you adopt the following procedure:

On your new WinXP machine, search for "normal.dot" (it will probably be in
C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates).

Change the name of the "normal.dot" file to "normal.old" (just in case you
need to need to revert to the original file at a future date)

Then, copy "normal.dot" from your Win98SE machine onto your WinXP machine
(you must copy the file to exactly the same location on the WinXP machine as
the original "normal.dot" file).

Start Word 2003. If Word starts OK, check whether it now includes all of
your autocorrect entries (and any other personalisations). If you
experience problems, merely delete the transferred "normal.dot" file and
reinstate the original file.
