Transferring Word Keyboard Assignments to another Mac

J

john

Hi everybody

Having spent a considerable time on my iMac customising my keyboard
with Word 2004 keyboard shortcuts, how do I find them so that I can (a)
back them up (b) transfer them to my iBook?

Many thanks

Hi John,

They are held in your Normal template. Copy the Normal template from your
iMac to your iBook. Unless you moved it, it is here:
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal

~ stands for harddrive/users/YourUserNameAccount. Quit Word on both
computers first. Actually, rather than replacing Normal on the iBook, it's
probably a better idea to rename the iMac Normal template and make it a
global template. Word will load global templates on startup and pull
keyboard assignments from them.

The easiest way to make a template global is to store it in:
Applications/Microsoft Office/Office/Startup/Word
(quit Word first). More about Global Templates:
http://word.mvps.org/mac/BackUpPrefs.html
http://word.mvps.org/mac/GlobalTemplate.html

I would strongly recommend that anybody putting time in customizing Word
read this article to understand where Word stores different types of
customizations:
http://word.mvps.org/mac/BackUpPrefs.html

(Please don't apply this replacing Normal information to your other
question, at least not yet. Doing so may break something)
