TRANSITIONS

HOW DO I GET THE FIRST LINE OF A SLIDE TO FADE WHEN THE SECOND LINE COMES IN?

Hi,

There is a vocabulary that should be cleared up first.

When PowerPoint uses the term "transition" it is referring to the
process of changing from one slide to the next one.

What you are referring to is called "animation" in PowerPoint. To assign
an animation to text, first select the text box so that its border is
highlighted. Then right-click (or control-click) on the border and
choose "Custom Animation" from the pop-up menu.

Many, but not all, of the entrance and exit animations have the ability
to control the text character by character, line by line, or by an
entire paragraph by clicking the Options button once you have created an
animation.

I don't think there is an option in the fade animations that lets one
line at a time appear and then fade away when the second line comes in.

To accomplish this, create a text box (View > Toolbars > Drawing > Text
Box button) for each line of text. Use the Fade custom animations to
create appropriate entrance and exit animations.
