Translating & Formatting Text Documents Into Access

N

Norm & Debbie

Good morning group. When I translate a text document into access, the data
does not align exactly into the fields. It may be spread over three
different fields.

Two questions; How do I keep the text columns straight so the data is in
the exact field? And, if the data cannot be placed into a single field, how
can the fields be merged so that all the particular data falls into the
field where it must be?

Thanks Group!

Hello Norm,

The best way to import text data into an Access table is to add field
separator symbols in the text. The most common separator is the comma. When
comma is used you need to enclose text with embedded comma(s) in something
like quotes.
You can use any convenient symbol as separator, Tab is also used. The
carriage return-linefeed is commonly used for end-of-record.

The Import Wizard will let you set your import specifications.
