transparency question Mac to Windows

I have a PowerPoint presentation created in the 2004 Mac version. But when I view the file using PowerPoint 2007 Windows, the type that is supposed to be transparent is opaque.

If I upgrade to 2008 Office (Mac), will this fix my problem? That is, does the newest Mac version convert well to 2007 Office on Windows?

Hi scottiep :)

Could you tell me a little bit more about your PPT 2004 file? What do you
mean by "type"? Are you referring to text or WordArt or something else?

I tried a simple presentation with shapes and WordArt with transparent fills
created in PPT 2004 and they appear transparent when I opened the file in
Windows Office 2007.

Well, yes, throughout my presentation, I have text boxes with lines of type that is not opaque. With one of these text boxes selected, I go to: Format>Font, and I can adjust the transparency slider to adjust the type to be a subtle design element.

This is all done with Office 2004 for Mac. However when I take the file to a Windows machine running Office 2007 (where the presentation will be delivered from), this effect is lost. Any text with this transparency adjustment, is, instead, opaque.

I'm wondering if there is anything I can do--short of making all the changes on the Windows machine. I'm also wondering if I upgrade to 2008 on the Mac, if this will help me with this issue in the future.

thanks for your help.

Thanks for the feedback, scottiep :)

Yeah, transparency is indeed lost and there's no workaround in PPT 2004 that
I could find. Upgrading to PPT 2008 though works. Furthermore, you can save
to .ppt (instead of .pptx) in PPT 2008 and still maintain visual fidelity
(preserved text transparency) when opening the file in Windows Office 2007.

I hope this helps,

Hi k8wdesign :)

Thanks for reporting this. Unfortunately, there isn't a workaround other
than to set the transparency in PPT2007 and resaving the presentation.
You'll find that setting Transparent Color on the PC will not transfer to
the Mac either. We are investigating this issue, as it does not seem to
reproduce with all pictures.

Thanks,
