transparent background is not transparent when published to web

I have placed a gif image of an oval logo with transparent background on
shared borders. It appears without the background in design mode, but when I
publish the web site, the transparent background shows as white around the
image. I can find no way to correct this. Help!

This means that you have set the background to transparent without setting
the image matte color to one that is consistent with the overall background
color. What image editor are you using?

Thank you Murray. I use Paint Shop Pro X. (I hope I am replying in the
correct place because this is the first time I have done this.) Thanks
again. Tray

Murray: I found the prb. I inserted the graphic after I added the
background color. the "transparent" area of the graphic was loading after
the background color and therefore was sitting on top of the background. I
deleted both the graphic and background and reinserted them, graphic first
then background. Problem solved. Thank you for your interest and
suggestion. Tray
