Transparent fill in an Excel chart?

I am trying to create two Excel charts, one of which I want to place over the
other. I see the Transparency slide in Fill/Gradients, but it is inactive.
I don't know why, and it seems MS Help ignores "transparency" altogether.

I am using MS Office Excel 2003
