Transparent TIF Alpha Channels

L

I have just begun using PPT Mac X. In earlier versions of PPT I have
knocked out items in a TIF by adding an alpha channel. This worked
beautifully allowing smooth edges and varying degrees of transparency.
This isn't working now. Am I missing something or has this tool been
eliminated? That would be a step backwards.

PPT Help doesn't recognize "Alpha Channel".

The "click to chose transparent color" works quickly but not as well
as far as I can see. Anyone know how to get quality transparency
knockouts?

Thank You.

There's never been an Alpha channel tool in any version of PowerPoint. You may
have been editing the TIFF in another application (photoshop, perhaps?) that
allows this.

More about that here:

I don't know about TIFF but I sure know PPT X doesn't (well) support
transparency in PNG files. I suspect the problem might be the same for
TIFF. I don't know any decent workaround for this issue.

Powerpoint 2000, XP, and 2003 support tif with alpha channel transparency.

Powerpoint 2001 Mac supports png with transparency.

Powerpoint X supported png with transparency until SR1which created the
display problem we still currently have.

If you plan to use Powerpoint on the Mac with transparency,, use 2001.
Powerpoint X is a waste of your time.

I'd expect TIFF to suffer the same problems or worse, since PPT's probably
converting the TIFF to PNG for internal storage.
