Travel Expenses

Need advice on the best way to handle travel expenses in Project.

My project has several trips, the cost of each trip will be different based
on the duration of the trip and the number of people who go.

In Project 2003 or earlier, use Fixed costs on the relevant tasks. In 2007
create a Cost Resource called Travel expenses.

Thanks Rod - that is exactly what I needed to know. Funny my Project book
didn't have anything about fixed cost...time for a new book I guess.

I'm trying to setup travel costs and have added a resource - but type is
material so i can add the std rate.

i need to run a report that shows the Travel cost seperate from the work
resources

Hello Jack,

Cost resources are only available for Project 2007. If you create a
material resource you can just fill the the flat rate for the cost.
If you then add the Cost field to the Resource Sheet after assigning
the material resource to tasks, you can see the total material costs
across the project.

The Task Usage view with the Cost column added will also show total
cost per task and detail, by resource, where the costs are.

The other option is to add the travel costs as fixed costs. The fixed
cost field is a separate field that you can also display in a task
view.
