Traveling with Entourage

I've never gotten a laptop, so my question is this:

If I clone my Mac HD to a new laptop
1) Will I be able to easily receive/send e mail with all currents accounts
on the road at hotels? Do hotels need WiFi? How does that work.
2) What do I do when I get home to synchronize that what Entourage has on the laptop to match what Entourage has at home.
Or is it just better to use webmail while i'm away ,even though love pop up mail so much more? thanks.

Hi Kevs,

1) there's no need to clone your entire HD; just quit Entourage and transfer
the Microsoft User Data from your desktop Mac's ~/Documents folder to the
same location on your laptop, then launch Entourage on your laptop (which
absolutely needs to be the same version as Entourage on your desktop; to
make sure this is the case, run Microsoft AutoUpdate a couple of times until
there are no more updates left for your version of Office).

I'm not sure I understand your other questions. "Do hotels need WiFi?" No,
they don't, in the same way that they don't need en-suite bathrooms, but
life is so much more comfortable if they do. One thing to note is that it
might not be possible to send/receive e-mails depending on the availability
of internet access and the number of ports that are being blocked.

2) Just transfer the MUD folder from your laptop back to your desktop.

Thanks Michael:
You are making this so much easier than others did in a previous post. Well actually I got this
 <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/travel.html>

which is so complex.

But all you are saying is: have same version of Entourage on your laptop, then right before copy MUD folder, and you are off flying? Then just copy and replace the Mud over

Now at home its a cord from wall into a modem.

What about a laptop? how are most people receiving connection.

It depends. Some hotels offer a high speed connection via LAN, meaning that
you'll have to connect your laptop to the modem via an Ethernet cable.
Others offer WiFi connectivity; in that case, you'll use your Mac's built-in
AirPort (Apple's name for WiFi) to access the wireless router. The hotel
should provide you with more info on how to do this. But beware: even though
some hotels provide internet access for free, others don't, and you'll have
to pay quite a lot in some cases. So make sure you get some information
first before you start surfing.

Good info, I assumed that wifi in a hotel, (and that seems like the easier way no) would be free, included in the price of the room.
but even then there might be issues of settings or just plug and play....

The way I do it is to set all POP accounts to Œleave mail on server¹ for 30
days.

Hen, the same mail will be collected by a desktop machine and a laptop,
providing they both check in within the 30 days. IMAP, News and Exchange
accounts take care of themselves as they are inherently server based.

Is this necessary Barry?
Can't I do it the way Michel states?
I could then sort my messages the way I like, replace the MUD when I get home, and I would not have to download them again.
