Treating Excel charts as pictures?

B

Bernard

I am using Word 2007 and inserting multiple Excel charts to my document. I
like that I can edit the charts by simply clicking on them, but I would like
to be able to treat the charts as images, to be able apply pictures styles to
the graph, for instance.

The same problem arises when I insert Origin graphs, Word does not treat the
graphs as pictures, so I cannot edit their styles (create chadows, for
instance).

The only solution I found is to create PDFs of the Excel (and Origin)
charts, use Acrobat to save the PDF as JPEGS, then paste them in Word (which
is absurd and prevents me from editing the graphs afterwards).

How can I solve this apparently simple problem?

Thanks.

Hi Bernard,

When pasting the Excel chart into Word, simply click on the down arrow at the bottom of the 'Paste' button on the Home ribbon, then
choose Paste Special > Picture.

Hi,

thank you for your answer. This will simplify the pasting of charts, and
will allow me to apply picture styles. But is there no way to still be able
to edit the charts, and treat them as pictures nonetheless? It seems to me
that it would make much more sense.

Hi Bernard,

You can't have it both ways. You can have either an editable chart or a picture to which you can apply shadow effects.

A possible workaround would be to position an autoshape with shadow effects, the same size as the chart, behind the chart.
