I have a new computer. It has a TRIAL Home Office Student 2007 version
installed. WHAT will happen when my TRIAL runs out? I can't find answers
anywhere!!!

I want to keep the Home Office Student 2007 version. Kinda grown to like it.
But if I don't PAY for the version, what will happen? Will I just LOSE
alllll of my WORD?

I NEED SOME HELP HERE.

If you do not pay for it, then the software will go into Reduced
Functionality Mode at the end of the trial period, which means that you
can use Office 2007 to open, view, and print existing Office 2007 files,
but you cannot create new Office 2007 files or modify existing Office
2007 files. You cannot reinstall the trial software to extend the trial
period. See http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/faq.aspx for more
information.

Man, that sucks! I guess I'll be notified when it runs out, so I can PAY for
it. Still haven't found out allll that it will do, but kinda getting used to
it. SO diff from WORD 2000 which is what I had with Windows ME.

thanks so much!!!

Why does it suck? It's like trying an outfit on. If you like it, you buy it.
If you needed Office, you should have explained that to the salesperson. I'm
sure they would have explained that it was not included and would cost
extra.

JoAnn,

I wasn't aware it was a TRAIL version until the comuter came. I purchased it
from HSN on TV. It was a put-together package. When they explained it all
they failed to mention the TRIAL period. It's no biggie problem, I'll just
pay for it. It's only my 2nd computer purchase in 8 years, and my first, also
a Gateway, had everything on it, already. Not thru HSN but thru Gateway
direct.

Thanks for the response. Glad to know there really is help out there for
people like me.

Happy Saturday!

If you do decided to buy it, I would strongly recommend that you purchase a
boxed retail version (either in a bricks-and-mortar store or through an
online or mail order vendor). If you use any of the electronic versions
(paying for the license key or ordering a download version), you will wind
up with no physical media (CDs or DVDs), which can prove awkward if you need
to reinstall down the line.

Most new "off the rack" computers come with the trial version. Personally, I
tell my friends and relatives to dump it as soon as they get the system set
up. I don't even want then to fire it up one time. Trial software is usually
more hassle than it's worth.

*IF* you decide to buy Office, figure out which is the right edition for
your needs (Home and Student may not be depending on what you will be doing
with your new computer), back up all of your work files (to be on the safe
side), uninstall the trial version, install the full version. Believe me,
it's the best way to do it.

My Saturday will be much happier in about a half hour. :)

I concur with Suzanne. Even if it seems cheaper to convert the preinstalled
trial version in the end you get what you pay for and it may ultimately be
more than the cost of a retail version. For example you won't get support
from Microsoft. Support will be through the manufacture of the computer.
Typically if you didn't get an extended warranty then that means you have no
support. And if you lose your product key or need replacement media (well,
if you actually got your installation CDs in the first place) you may or may
not be able to obtain either from the manufacturer.

If Home and Student is the version you're happy with, and if you decide to
buy a retail boxed version (highly recommended), there's no need to
uninstall it and install the retail version. Just use the CD key from the
retail version when you Activate the software and it'll convert to the full
version, hopefully without hassle.

If you buy any version that isn't the same as your trial version then you
will need to uninstall the trial and install the new version.

Hope this makes sense. I'd hate to add to your confusion.

Agreed. No need to reinstall and MS this has verified the method is fine.
:) If there is a problem with the CD key or activation then that's usually
due to having a mismatched verion. For example the trial is Office Standard
and the purchased version is Home and Student.

WOW! kinda wish I'd gotten online and read all of this great info earlier,
but had family emergency.
my TRIAL version had expired when i tried to use it sunday. had to do some
really important stuff, and NO WORD. so, i went ahead and followed
instructions from MS and 'bought' the full version of home office student
2007 online. BUT, they are going to snail mail me a CD backup. So that will
help. at least i was able to get out all the info i needed.

ya'll are so GREAT giving me fantastic information. i am blown away with
your knowledge.

thank you all so very much for your help. also, going to check out that
'free' site, too. just might want to have 2 programs. OH, i had COREL word
processing on old computer. I really like COREL. it has so many more
options.

well, have to go. daughter having major surgery in a couple of hours.

bless you all so much for your help.

So long as you actually have the CD(s), you should be okay. Just make sure
you keep a good record of the license key.

I'm sorry to hear you are having a family emergency and that your daughter
isn't well. I'm sending good thoughts your way.

I'm glad to hear that you did get a backup copy of the CD. Depending on what
you actually have, there are different versions of the trial, in some
scenarios if you didn't opt to obtain the installation media at the time of
purchase you can't get it at a later date. And like Suzanne said, hang on to
your Product Key!

Is Office 2007 trial available for Non US residents?

I'm having problems downloading Home & Student Edition trial version. During
the process of downloading trial Office 2007 one has to enter personal
information on "Your information" form. On that form only United States is
available as selection for Country field. But regardless of the entered
information, outcome when submitting this form is always the same, page is
redisplayed but with an error message:

"We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request.
The following problem(s) exist:

We are sorry, we are unable to complete your request. You are attempting to
submit an order without any items in your shopping cart. Please try again."

I've tried emailing support, their answers were that I have to clean-up
cookies and that I should access this trials download page from Microsoft
page localized for my country (Serbia), all of which I did and it didn't
help. My impressions are that support didn't even bother to read my
questions, I strongly believe that if they tried to go through trials
download procedure they would have encountered same error.
