Trial Period over already!!!

The Mac came pre-loaded with the 30 day trial. I have since loaded
Office but when I open an old file (moved over from a PC) it still
opens the trial software. I tried to move the trial version to trash
but then the files don't open at all. Thoughts?

Trash the trial version, select one of those .doc (or .xls or whatever)
files in Finder, select "Get Info" in Finder's File menu, expand the
"Open with:" pane of the window, use the pop-up menu to select Word (or
Excel or whatever), then click the "Change All" button to have all files
with the .doc (or .xls, etc) extension open in Word (or ...).

As an alternative, you can use RCDefaultApp
<http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/> to edit the system
settings that associate filename extensions with applications.
