Trial Software ?

I have XP Pro and it came with One Note trial version .What happens when it
runs out ? Do I lose my files? I only need basic office functions for my home
use.

No, you can continue to view and print those files even after the trial
finishes. You won't be able to copy/paste the stuff out of OneNote after the
trial finishes though, so do that before it runs out if you decide not to
purchase.
