Trial version installation

I want to evaluate using Project to link to an access database we are running
and have failed before i even start! I have downloaded the img file and
product keys but dont know how to install. It suggests burning a cd from the
img file and I have seen some links to sites that offer software to do this.
But I am reluctant to download any of their stuff as it seems to be a
complete set of machine cleanup tools and I am not sure that I want these
installed on my machine. Any suggestion please.

It's not my recollection that the Project trial program is an "img" file
that needs to be burned to a CD. Normally Microsoft provides their
downloads as self extracting compressed files of some form or another
than you just download and then open to run the installation program.
Further, my experience is that Microsoft always provides full
instructions on how to install the program. Perhaps if they did give
you an "img" file they have instructions on their download web site
about what you are supposed to.

Frankly, it sounds to me that you do not have an official
Microsoft-provided trial program.

I have gone back through the microsoft site and checked the address and it
all looks OK.

The instructions to install are

Expand the ProjectProfessional.IMG file to a blank CD using the software of
your choice. If you do not already have software to do this, we suggest you
look at Windows Marketplace and choose from the list displayed

I have looked at the Windows Marketplace but it is not obvious what to do
there except buy full versions of software, I am just totally puzzled. The
address of the download site is

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=8e6c9977-69af-4cbc-8f39-d0111088ed48

Gosh. News to me. Yes, apparently you need to create a CD image file.
Sorry, I don't have much experience that. I usually get someone to do
it for me when needed. Too bad Windows doesn't do it out of the box.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101687261033.aspx is the
link I was thinking of and it appears to give a self extracting exe
file. I didn't progress getting the download. Just did it far enough
to see what would be downloaded.

Thanks for that, I went with the standard trial version and it just
downloaded as the usual exe file so will have a go with this version. I was a
little concerned as it seemed to download from the Digital River website and
I have had some really bad experiences with them but it all looks OK.
Certainly better than experimenting with the img file.

Well, don't have a clue about Digital River (other than have had no
problems). All I know is that it was Microsoft
(http://office.microsoft.com) that directed you to them. So if
problems, contact Microsoft.
