Trial version of Office 2003

If I install a trial version of Microsoft Office 2003 to update my computer
from Office 97, will it erase the existing data on my computer?

I have a spreadsheet made in office 97 that is showing an error message
needing to update to office 2003.

No, but it is always a good idea to backup your data before any software installation.
