Trial version vs My earlier version of Word

Hello,

Can someone help me?

I bought Microsoft Office back in 2000. It always worked fine. Two
months ago I purchased a new Mac Pro computer that came with a trial
version of the newest version of Office (or wathever it's called now,
it contains Word etc.).
I installed my old software (which I had installed in an external
drive but don't have the actual disk anymore) on my new Mac pro.
Every time I tried to open a Word file it automatically opened the
trial version of Word (telling me that it was only valid for a month
or so and then I would have to buy it). I always quit it (I never used
the trial version) and open my older application of Word from the dock
- where I had placed it - and then open my Word files perfectly.

Now, suddenly, when I try to open MY Word version 2000 I cannot
anymore because a window tells me that the use of it has expired.

I have disinstalled the trial version but still, my original version
doesn't work as I get a message that says that it cannot open
Microsoft Office because Microsoft Office X is already in use.

WHAT TO DO??

Please help me,

I NEVER ASKED FOR A TRIAL VERSION OF THAT SOFTWARE!!

Nobody else did, either. Not our fault (those that answer questions here
don't work for MS or Apple).

Yes, it's stupid that Test Drive needs to be removed prior to installing
the regular version.

And yes, you DID use the trial version, since the trial version of Word
opened.

FWIW, you don't have Office 2000 for Mac, because it doesn't exist.
Office 2001 is a Classic app, but I don't remember if it was released in
2000, or whether that means you have Office 98. Office v.X is an OS X
application, but it came out in 2002, after you bought your copy.

In any case, since you're having problems, the best course is to run the
Remove Office application (found on your install disk if v.X, or
downloaded from MacTopia), and remove all instances of Office from your
HD.

Then either run Word from your external drive (if you can, I haven't
done it), or else find your disk (or buy another cheap copy on eBay, or
use someone else's disk, as long as you have your product code) and use
it to reinstall and update your purchased version.
