Trial Versions of Office 2003

I purchased a Compaq Presario for my daughter because it had Office Excel
2003 on it and she needed it for school. Now 1 year later I find out that it
is a Trial Version and it can be updated but only if we have a broadband
connection. Which we do not! Why is there not updates for the Trial Versions
for dial up ISP's Connections? I did not know it was a Trial Version to begin
with or else I would have never purchased it! We received no book, no back up
disc, no nothing but a computer in a box.... I should have known better than
to believe the salesman when he said this one has all that you need! Bologny!

Hi, worthy,

Sounds like either an uneducated or unscrupulous salesperson. That's really
unfortunately, and I'd pursue recourse from the seller, for sure.

That issue aside, my understanding is that you can convert a Trial Version
into a licensed version electronically, but you still need to purchase a
license for it if you want to own it. In your situation, it sounds like the
easiest way to do this is to go to a computer store and purchase a box of
Excel off the shelf.

Uninstall the trial version, then install the licensed version from your
purchased CD. Then you'll be good to go.

To be absolutely sure about what your options are, if you have any questions
about the licensing and terms of the Trial Versions and how those work,
don't hesitate to call Microsoft at 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday,
6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific time) and ask to speak directly to a
Microsoft licensing specialist. Worldwide customers can use the Guide to
Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in their
locations.

I've called them and have had good luck speaking with a real person for
free, and they are great at answering questions about licensing.
