Tried to create Project Server database, but was unable to

My systems admin is istalling Project Server right now, but we are not using
Sharepoint Services. But, we will be installing Analysis Services after
Project Server is installed. When my Systems admin tried to enter the server
information to install the Project Server database, we got an error message
that stated, "The server you entered is not responding. Check that the name
is valid and try again." He entered the correct machine server that Project
Server and SQL Server is going to be running on, but we got that error. What
could be the problem? Any way to fix this? Thanks!

Brett:

You keep saying "going to be running on." What do you mean by this? You
can't install Project Server until you at least have a SQL server to install
to. You can add the Analysis services later, but don't enter any information
specific to analysis services during Project Server installation if that's
the case.
