Trouble after transferring files to new MacBook Pro

mark

Last night I transferred the contents of my old computer to my new
MacBook Pro using FireWire and the Mac setup program. The problem is,
my computer is now acting like I am an unauthorized user, using a 30-
day test drive of Office 2004 and on my old Powerbook, I had a fully
authorized version of Office. A friend told me that this happens all
the time and all I have to do is uninstall the trial version and my
regular version will be restored, but I don't know how to do this and
he doesn't remember. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Your friend is right, this behaviour is the direct result of your not
removing the Test Drive prior to transferring data from your old computer.
It is not really your fault, though, since the Test Drive is pure evil
because of its refusal to instruct the user explicitly to uninstall it
first. To remove Office, move the Remove Office application to the desktop
(it can be found in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional
Tools/Remove Office), then run it. After you've done that, re-install Office
from the install disk, then re-apply all the available updates.

Hi Mark -

The procedure is as follows:

To remove the Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive

Quit any programs that are running.
On your hard disk, open the Microsoft Office 2004 folder that contains the
Test Drive.
If you saved any documents in the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, move them to
another location.
In the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, double-click Remove Office.
Click Continue.
In the Results window, click Microsoft Office 2004 (including Test Drive),
and then click Continue to move that folder to the Trash. Follow the
instructions on the screen.

It can also be found at the bottom of this web page:

<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downlo...ffice2004.xml&secid=4&ssid=1&flgnosysreq=True>

....if the link doesn't break:)

You 'may' have to reinstall Office 2004 if the programs don't run after
removing the Test Drive. It isn't your fault, but this is something that
really is better if done *before* doing the migration. Make sure that if you
do have to reinstall that you run all the necessary updates before trying to
run any of the programs (11.3.5, 11.3.6, & 11.3.7 followed by 11.3.8 in that
order).
