Trouble closing word

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I close word, after working and saving a document, the computer gets really slow and it only closes definitively when I open the Monitor of Activity panel and I force the closure of the process. The process sample is:
Sampling process 491 for 3 seconds with 1 millisecond of run time between samples
Sampling completed, processing symbols...
Analysis of sampling Microsoft Word (pid 491) every 1 millisecond

I can't tell from your log what that is: it looks like either the Grammar
Checker or the Network is hanging.

What happens if you pull the network cable before shutting down? That will
eliminate one or the other...

It looks like it's going for a network connection and never returning...
