Trouble deleting mail from unread view

C

cgervais

I think I've found a bug in Entourage 2004 SP2, but would like some
additional confirmation of the behavior.

To reproduce:

1) Open Entourage 2004 SP2 and select "Unread mail" from your Mail
Views (using the ordering of Newest on Top)
2) Click on an unread message to select
3) Press the Delete key on your keyboard

Expected Results:
The selected message is deleted.

Actual Results:
The selected message is not deleted and the selection moves up to the
next unread message date-wise. To actually delete the message you have
to reselect the message and pressing delete

Configuration notes:
On a corporate LAN connecting to an Exchange 2003 backend. My PowerBook
is running Mac OS X 10.4.2 with latest patches.

Can others reproduce this?

I am not able to reproduce this issue as described. Please let me know if
you have more details. If you quit and relaunch Entourage are you still able
to reproduce the issue?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Nor I. Do you have View/Arrange By turned on/off? Preview pane on right,
below, off? Do you have custom column settings? Is the message you select
the first message (i.e., topmost?) or does it matter? If you weren¹t in
Unread only view, would there be read messages surrounding the to-be-deleted
message?

I think perhaps you left out a crucial item: I suspect you have "Include
Deleted Items" box checked in the "Edit Custom View" panel? When you
"delete" a message, it's actually just moved to the Deleted Items folder (or
similar IMAP Deleted Items folder for an IMAP message). Only when you delete
it form there is it actually expunged. If you have that "Include Deleted
Items" box checked, the message will still appear in your mail view after
the first deletion. If you don't want to see it, Edit the view (right-click
or control-click on the View's icon in Folder list and choose "Edit Custom
View") and uncheck that box. Later on you can Empty Deleted Items (from
Tools/Schedule, or via control-click on the Deleted folder) and do it all at
once.

Paul: Thanks for the tip, but "Include Deleted Items" is unchecked
(although in seeking that option I was introduced to the custom views
setup dialog for the 1st time).

Rebecca: I can reproduce this across Entourage launches and machine
reboots.

Nathan: All of my settings are the Entourage 2004 defaults -- I haven't
modified any of the view/arrange by settings. The preview pane is on
the right. It doesn't matter if the message is the first selected. If
I'm not looking thru the "Unread" filter, I get the correct or expected
behavior.

If it's helpful, I can take a screen movie of the behavior.
