Trouble drawing lines in 2003

When I select the line AutoShape from the Drawing toolbar in Word 2003
nothing happens? And after trying it twice, it hangs?

Take a look at www.drawingwithword.com and find your way to "lines & arrows".
If folowing that doesn't work then I suspect you might have to re-instal Word

I've gone ahead and uninstalled/reinstalled word and it still doesn't work?
It isn't just the line drawing, but all the other shapes as well. Also the
line tool width selection isn't enabled. I'd welcome any other ideas?

You select the line and then what do you do? You must actually draw the line
by dragging the mouse. Same with AutoShapes; you have to drag the mouse to
draw them. And the Line Weight button is not enabled unless you have an
AutoShape selected.

If you're dragging the mouse to draw a line or shape and something appears
to be created (has sizing handles) but disappears when you click away from
it, then this may be a result of your having reset the AutoShape defaults.
Users often do this to set No Line and No Fill for text boxes, not realizing
that text boxes are AutoShapes and that the defaults they set for them will
affect all other AutoShapes as well.

I do drag either the line or the other auto shapes but nothing happens.
Looked at the AutoShape defaults but No line and No fille for text boxes are
not selected. So strange. Thanks for your reply.
