trouble exporting to csv file

I am trying to export data from an Access 2000 table to a csv file.
When I choose the "Text files" option, no wizard appears. (The cat
says there should be an export wizard.) The resulting file is a
totally worthless text file with boxes drawn around each field using
hyphens and vertical lines. What am I doing wrong?
