Trouble Highlighting Text

Have been using Word X for Mac daily for several years without
problem. In the last two weeks, however, I have noticed an inability
to highlight small or large blocks of text. I can drag the cursor and
highlight the text, but when I release the mouse button the
highlighting won't "hold." I have to try several times (going top to
bottom, bottom to top, whatever) to find a way to make the
highlighting "hold" so I can perform the needed action on the text.

Any idea what might have caused this problem to appear? Solutions?

Hi William -

Can you think of anything you may have changed "about" 2 weeks ago?
Do the doc title bars indicate "Read Only"?

Also, is OS X fully up-to-date (10.4.8 or 10.3.9)? How about Office
(10.1.9)? If not apply the necessary updates, repair disk permissions & see
if that helps. Post back with details should the problem persist.
