My sister sent me some .DBX files to load onto a used computer I am setting
up for her. This computer I am trying to set up has Windows 2000 with
Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 6. I cannot get the messages onto the new
computer.
Outlook. I have tried to get them into Outlook by importing the DBX files to
Outlook on my own PC (Windows XP Professional with Outlook 2003 SP1 and
Outlook Express 6) and thus have created a PST file. I created the PST file
and I can see all her emails in Outlook on my own computer with no problem
so I know the files she sent me are okay. When I try to insert that PST file
into the appropriate folder on the new computer (local settings/application
data/microsoft/outlook) and then open Outlook it says "File access is
denied - you do not have permission to access the file." I have also tried
to import the messages by using the "Import Internet Mail and Addresses"
command and choosing Outlook Express 4.x, 5 (OE6 isnt even a choice) but it
doesnt allow me to specify the DBX files (which I have burned to a CD), it
just pulls the files that already exist in OE (which is basically just the
welcome message since the Outlook and OE on the new computer are newly
loaded).
Outlook Express. When I try to import the PST file into Outlook Express it
also tells me that access is denied. I have tried just inserting the DBX
files into the appropriate Outlook Express folder (Local
settings/application data/identities ...etc.) but when I open OE and try to
read any folder it says it is unable to read the folder. I have also tried
"Import>Messages>Outlook Express 6>Import Mail from an OE6 store directory"
and have hit Browse and called out the location of the DBX files, (on the
CD) but it says there are no DBX files found.
Why am I having so much trouble? I don't remember ever having trouble before
moving messages around between Outlook and OE.
