trouble installing office 2003 updates

Ok...I'm at my wit's end. I can't install Office 2003 Updates. I've even
uninstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled...now I can't update to SP2. I had
SP2 when I uninstalled. I'm going backwards. I've referred to
http:support.microsoft.com/kb/304498 which had 9 potential solutions.
Nothing. I clean booted...nothing. Reinstalled...nothing. As far as error
messages, they're pretty darn general. It simply says "Installation
unsuccessful" and then sends feeback to MS. I have Office 2003 Pro on
Windows XP Home SP2.

Thoughts? I'm about to do a system restore to the furthest point back...but
this has been going on for over a month. It was happening with the darn
language updates (who cares), but now I can't install critical security
pieces.

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Even tried the full downloads...NOTHING. Can't install.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Just a quick question . In the Event viewer under MCInstaller do you have the ID1603 error listed? Please post back with answer.

Sorry for my misspelling. Try this and see if it will work for you

1. Download the LISTool from the Office download site. Do not execute it just yet
2. Download the full SP2 file. About 101mb
3. Open any Office app and go to Help\Detect and Repair and activate it.
4. Reboot
5. Execute the LISTool by selecting all the Office apps that you have in there. Then make sure you select the Enable Option and NOT the Disable one.
6. Reboot
7. Try the install of the SP2 with the Full file that you have downloaded.

This should install the SP2.

Good luck and let us know.
