Trouble installing Office 97 on New PC with MS Works and XP

I am having trouble installing Office 97 on my machine.
(I own the orignal CD, yellow key code label, etc...)

I am able to enter the setup process and the computer
accepts the key code, but then the copmuter scans my
hardrive for "eligible files" or something like this (I
can't remember the exact message). It then tells me to
call MS using the number in my book (which I have long
since lost.)

Can you help me?
